What's your take on mini-cocktails?
One of the trends we've been following in higher end bars and restaurants is the evolution of "mini-cocktails." Similar to the small plate trend, these baby sips pack your favorite classics into itty-bitty, shot-sized glasses. Often they are served with a small bite of food meant to perfectly enhance the drink- like a sliver of mind-blowingly good cheese, or the single perfectly seasoned potato chip. There are a couple ideas behind this- save on calories and alcohol content, at the same time afford a more expensive spirit in a mixed drink.
I've used a CLASSIC MANHATTAN recipe to style these four little soldiers, and paired them with a wedge of Red Leicester.
CLASSIC MANHATTAN-
2 parts whiskey
1 part sweet vermouth (red)
1 to 2 dashes Angostura, or your favorite bitters
Real Maraschino cherry
Organge slice
Stir whiskey, vermouth and bitters easily in a cocktail shaker or measuring cup with a couple cubes of ice. Rub the orange peel on the rim of the glass, and pour in the mix. Top with the cherry and orange peel. Sip away! (BTW....make your own Maraschino cherries, you'll be so glad you have a jar in the fridge at all times.)
Though I can appreciate the draw of these little wonders, to be honest... after taking these shots I poured all four into a high ball and went outside to play with the dogs.....
Curious to know your thoughts on the mini-cocktail trend!
